A Viking’s Feast: Kadayawan 2014

The Vikings are here to stay and have something special in store for you this Kadayawan 2014.

Vikings’ Luxury Buffet will be serving dishes inspired by the splendid Land of Promise, starting today, Aug. 11, 2014 until Aug. 17, 2014. If you have ever wondered how durian and mangosteen infused main courses taste like then do hang around because you are about to find out.

Davao City, aside from being one of the most livable cities in the world today is also a culinary mecca. It is abundant in seafood, poultry, vegetables, livestock and fruits. In fact, Kadayawan Festival is a celebration of thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest among others.

Ready to join in the festive mood?  Check out what Vikings’ has prepared for you below.

Balot A La Pobre Pate
An interesting way to start your meal is a mouthful of this pate. If you have been wanting to try balut for the longest time but do not have the guts to do so yet then this will bring you one step closer to your goal.

An instant favorite is this lumpia (spring roll) with a distinct Filipino twist. The smoky taste of the tinapa mixed with the sweetness of the ripe mango is surprisingly very refreshing.

Vikings Special Kinilaw

Kinilaw with a Davao flair. Its special ingredients include lechon and pomelo, need I say more?

Bagnet Salad
Presenting my kind of salad, a meatlover’s pick. The not so healthy but tasty one.
Ensaladang Talong with Malunggay Pesto
Reminds me of gourmet in a bottle done right and plated in perfection.
Eat your veggies. Yes, Sir. with muchos gusto. Spicy with love.
Filipino Paella
One cup of rice coming up! Can you make it a plate of this Filipino Paella for me?
Or better yet, toss in this big serving of Satemi too.
Bihod Pasta
And now it’s time to introduce you to the star of my night, the Bihod (female tuna egg) Pasta. This is a dish that exudes simplicity yet glorious and delicious. Al dente pasta in olive oil and topped with generous servings of  bihod and parmesan cheese.
Ginataang Alimango

No one is trying to steal the spotlight from you, Mr. Ginataan. You will always be close to my heart.

Rellenong Manok sa Mangosteen Sauce

But I still have room left for this newcomer and yes, the mangosteen sauce complements the rellenong chicken. In short, it’s a perfect match.

Inihaw na Imbao

Ohhh, Imbao. You are starting to be a main cast already and rightfully so because you are so versatile, juicy and tasty. Move over, baked scallops and oysters, it’s Imbao’s time to shine.

Baby Back Ribs in Durian Sauce
Durian and baby back ribs? how and why? I guess some good things in life are just better left unexplained but as to the former, the meat is marinated in barbecue marinade with durian and then laced with durian sauce on top. Recommended to those who want to try durian but are still intimidated of the real fruit.  Indulge your senses in this playful dish- get a taste of durian mixed in with the rich flavor of barbecued pork.
Beef Steak Tagalog
What’s a Filipino festive meal without a beef so tender? or spicy goat meat in creamy caldereta sauce?
Spicy Baked Calderetang Kambing

And finally, the last but never the least— desserts!
Mango Sansrival
Cheesecake Sampler
Cheesecake-Leche Flan-Brazo de Durian-Mango Sansrival (L-R)
Four beautifully crafted desserts will be added to the regular buffet selection for Kadayawan 2014. The Brazo de Durian is a must-try. It will take you to a whole new level of durian satisfaction. Experience the fun ride it will take you as you slice your way through the light meringue top until you reach the creamy filling and deeper into the firm crust.  Wheew! Truly delightful, I must say.
What are you waiting for? The Kadayawan Special Menu is until Aug. 17 only. Dig in! 🙂
